Città della Pieve is the hometown of Raphael’s most influential teacher, Pietro Vannucci, known as Il Perugino, one of the most iconic painters of renaissance Italy, whose work is distinguished by characteristic Pievese landscapes. Among the many treasures that call this town their home are the works of Il Perugino: La Deposizione dalla Croce - the Deposition from the Cross - in the Museo CivicoDiocesano di Santa Maria dei Servi, where an exhibition of Etruscan finds (sarcophagi and urns) can be found in the Tomb of San Donnino in Città della Pieve.
